THE Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, was installed as the first Chancellor of the Federal University of Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, Ebonyi State. Oba Gbadebo’s home government, Ogun State, sent a 50-man delegation to accompany the royal father to the historic occasion.
The Media Consultant to the traditional ruler, Alhaji Lai Labode, who is the Aare Baaroyin of Egbaland, made this known in a press statement. He stressed that Oba Gbadebo, the Okukenu IV, on arrival at the town on Sunday before the installation ceremony was welcome by his fellow Egba indigenes in Ebonyi State. Labode said that other people from Yorubaland, who live in the state, also accompanied their fellow Egbas to welcome Alake to the state. He explained that the rousing welcome for Oba Gbadebo included the Egba traditional dancing and cultural display from the Enugu Airport right through 84-kilometre journey to Abakaliki. “The Alake is being accompanied by a 50-man delegation assigned by the Ogun State Government to be part of the epoch making event,” Labode said. “The entourage was welcome by the Egbas resident in the town, accompanied by their Yoruba counterparts,” he added. According to Labode, among members of Alake’s team are Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Oluwaseun Alaba Lawson, ex-Minister of Steel, Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola, one-time Secretary to the Ogun State Government, and some Egba high chiefs.
